Shortening tops and more Jeans

Thank you for all your comments on my top yesterday, and the many get well wishes.

As mentioned yesterday one of the first jobs of the day was to shorten my Vogue 8854 top.  I took about 4" off the back and around 2" off the front, which as you can see from the before and after pictures has made quite a difference.  Do I like it more???  Not sure, I think this may be an alternative to wearing a dressing gown over my PJ's rather than something I would wear out.

So not a complete wadder, but not as great as I would have liked.

I did complete another project today.  I made my 3rd pair of Jalie Jeans, but I knew I needed to take them in because I have lost weight since making the muslin, so had to make adjustments to the pattern and was keeping my fingers crossed that I wasn't taking them in too much (or perhaps not enough).

They turned out fine, except for the waistband which is too large in the back.  I think I may need to consider a curved waistband.  But, me being me, I was up against the clock determined to make these before we headed up to London tonight.  I did finish them,  however I know that I will need to make an adjustment to the waistband at some time in the future.

I am heading off to Houston on Friday, so I needed to pack my bag and bring it with me.   I have probably forgotten something I usually do!!!!!!!! Hopefully my cold with clear up before I go, surely it cant hang around for longer than 2 weeks.  It had started to snow again here tonight, so I suspect that the weather will be slightly warmer in Houston.

I hope you all had a good weekend.  Catch you later...............

    1. Thanks Margy - always lovely to hear the diet is working (just not quick enough really). Still coughing and spurting, still I have until Friday before I fly.

  5. I like what you did with the top, Pauline. The shorter version is way nicer, IMO. It looks like a cozy comfy item to wear. I actually like the sheerness of the fabric that you chose because it makes the top look more floaty. A heavier fabric would definitely project a bulkier silhouette.

    1. Thanks Kathryn - I think this will be a house coat/top if you know what I mean.

  6. Oops, I forgot to mention how much I like those jeans. Congrats on continuing to lose weight before the Big Day. Making jeans in continuing smaller sizes must be a thrill.

    1. I confess it is a thrill to make the jeans smaller - this is the 2nd reduction and I had cut some away from the pattern sides and put a pleat up the centre front and centre back too so I was sort of holding my breath when I tried them on.

  7. Your jeans look really chic! And the tunic is much better shortened. I made the same top last month and haven't worn it yet because I don't like how it looks on me. I think one problem is the sleeves, which are large. If they were narrower on the lower arm and wrist, the tunic might look slimmer. Guess I should consider remaking mine.

  8. thank you Dixie. You may be able to reduce the size of the sleeves on your top?

  9. Wow!! You have lost weight! You look fab. the shirt looks much cuter short, too. I thought I liked it a lot long but now I love it on you. Listen, I cannot find your personal email address. I sent you a PM on PR so that we can make a plan for when you get here. Send me a note when you have a minute.

Look forward to seeing you soon!

  11. Both pieces look great, I like the top better at the new shorter length too. Your jeans look terrific. I've always sewn a shaped waistband for my jeans too.

  12. I'm finding it hard to determine how to ask a question on your blog about one of your non-current posts on your butterick 5464 blouse projects. The contact me link didn't work and all I got was that annoying Quiklink popup. I saw your review on Patternreview.com and from there followed the link to your blog. I'm so happy I found you as the smaller ruffle is so much better and more attractive and I'm definitely going to follow your lead for that adjustment. I really do love the cardigan you replaced the fabric to match the blouse in the weave!! My main question is about the FBA you did to this pattern. I need to increase to a D cup size and I've never altered a pattern with the dart in the shoulder seam before and was wondering how to do that. Can you help me? I'm not sure how I'll know when and if you give me an answer to my question.

  13. I like the shorter length, and the jeans look great, particularly the fabulous pocket embroidery. I made a "wear around the house" top a bit like this last winter - I didn't feel glamorous in it, but on the other hand, it was warm and cosy and much better as a garment in which I could answer the door than my dressing gown ;)
